On October 15th, 2024, Arya Gurukul School, Nandivali, one of the best schools in Kalyan, organized a heartwarming visit to Shanti Bhavan Old Age Home in Kalyan (E). This educational outing was a part of our holistic curriculum and was held under the guidance of our Principal, Mrs. Radhamani Iyer, Vice-Principal, Mrs. Neeta Singh, Co-Scholastic Head, Ms. Veena Nair, and Head of Counseling, Ms. Pallavi Khadye. The visit allowed 50 students from grades 6 to 10 to spend a memorable day connecting with the elderly residents, a valuable experience for students at one of the top schools in Kalyan.
The day was filled with joy and connection as students and residents bonded through various activities. It began with a vibrant religious dance performance by our students, quickly followed by singing and karaoke sessions. Students sang popular 90s songs, and to everyone’s delight, the elderly residents joined in, singing cherished melodies of their own. The event became even more lively with a performance by our faculty members, Mr. Vishal and Mr. Abhay, and a special presentation by our 10th-grade students, showing why Arya Gurukul is known for its emphasis on creativity and self-expression.
In one of the most meaningful parts of the day, students engaged in heartfelt conversations with the residents. They learned about the elders’ childhoods, their life journeys, and received wise advice and guidance for the future. Listening to these stories helped our students gain a deeper understanding of life’s many stages and the importance of kindness and empathy, reflecting the values that Arya Gurukul School in Nandivali strives to instill.
To show their respect and appreciation, our students presented flowers and shawls to each resident, leaving everyone with warm smiles and gratitude. The day ended with a lively Bollywood dance, leaving both students and residents with beautiful memories and a sense of shared joy.
This educational trip was more than just a visit; it was a day of learning, empathy, and appreciation for the elderly and their experiences. For our students, it was an opportunity to connect with a different generation, fostered by one of the best schools in Kalyan that values compassion and community. As we left Shanti Bhavan, we carried a renewed sense of gratitude and respect for the residents and the caregivers who provided them with comfort and care.
This visit will remain a cherished memory for both students and staff of Arya Gurukul School, Nandivali, inspiring us all to build a more compassionate and understanding community.
